We often discuss the dangers of distracted driving here on our blog. Drivers that are texting or messing with the radio can easily cause an accident that could cost them or someone else their life. But as personal injury lawyers in Nashville, we know that being a distracted pedestrian can be just as dangerous. In fact, it may have cost a Franklin teen his life.
According to reports, a young man was walking along railroad tracks, earbuds in, listening to music. He had his back to an oncoming train and never heard it coming. He was struck near the Liberty Pike crossing and lost his life.
The entire Franklin community has rallied around the family and kept them in their thoughts and prayers. According to the Franklin Police Chief, “Our hearts and the hearts of the Franklin community hurt for the family and friends of this young man. This is a tragic event for a lot of people — tragic for the individual that lost their life, it’s tragic for his family, it’s tragic for the community, it’s tragic for the engineer.” The engineer of the train that struck the teen had immediately notified police that something terrible had happened.
Fortunately, tragedies of this nature are few and far between in Franklin. In fact, the police chief hadn’t encountered anything similar in over 16 years. However, stories of young men and women distracted by headphones and getting involved in smaller accidents is a bit too common.
We implore you to take care of yourself as a pedestrian. If you are listening to music, don’t play it so loud that you can’t hear outside ambience (car horns, etc). Please take care of yourself.
