According to law enforcement, a fatality occurred in a multi-vehicle accident on Monday, March 9. The incident happened where Memorial Boulevard and Airport Road intersect, near the Murfreesboro Airport.
Commercial Truck Allegedly Rear-ends Pickup
According to police, the chain reaction collision began when a dump truck hit the back of a pickup truck sitting in traffic. Next, the pickup careened into the automobile in front of it. That impact caused the car to collide with yet another vehicle in the adjacent lane.
One Fatality, Two Injuries
A Life Flight helicopter took the male motorist operating the pickup to an area hospital, but he did not survive. Those in the two cars were not seriously injured, and the driver of the dump truck was not injured.
One female witness told a local reporter that she initially believed a bomb had exploded. This major accident required the closure of a stretch of Memorial Boulevard from the post office to Heritage Park.
Varied Causes of Rear-end Collisions
Although the investigation into the cause or causes of this chain-reaction crash is ongoing, similar accidents are known to occur for various reasons. When a commercial truck rear-ends another vehicle, inattentive driving, fatigued driving, improper maintenance or even a parts failure are all possible causes.
