It was just last week that we shared an unfortunate story where a pedestrian was hit by a drunk driver. The pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries and in that story we brought up the fact that far too many pedestrians are involved in accidents in Middle Tennessee. Sadly the trend continues, and a more recent event had an even more tragic ending.

Tuesday night a young Mt. Juliet man was walking his bicycle along N. Rutherford Blvd when he was struck by a car. He was rushed to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, but he later succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are still a bit unclear and police are continuing to investigate. We join the friends and family of the deceased in mourning the loss of such a young life.

Carelessness and negligence often play a part in pedestrian accidents. As a pedestrian it’s critical to watch out for yourself, because motorists may not. If you’re walking or riding a bike at night, wear bright clothing and always cross streets and highways at crosswalks. The most important thing is to make sure you’re seen.
