It’s hard to put yourself in the mindset of someone who decides to flee police. You’re already in trouble, and yet you’re willing to risk even more punishment on the smallest hope that you’ll get away. Alcohol can greatly impair your judgment, so that could always be a factor for those that choose to run. It certainly seemed to be the case in a recent accident near Smyrna.
Late Tuesday night, police saw a woman coming down the street going 20 miles over the speed limit. They immediately tried to pull her over, but she wasn’t ready to slow down. Authorities pursued her down Almaville Road, and this is where her escape came to a quick end. Apparently she drove off the road before she overcorrected. This put her directly in the path of an approaching vehicle. The two cars collided head-on and the fleeing suspect was ejected from the car.
She survived the violent wreck and was taken to a nearby hospital. The passengers in the other vehicle were also injured and had to be treated for their injuries. In a twist, it was discovered that both drivers involved in the accident were in fact intoxicated at the time of the wreck and will be facing DUI charges.
